The Start of My Trip
From the plaque: “This wheel marks a portion of the Old Macleod Trail with visible wagon ruts of the original trail that linked Fort Benton, Montana to Fort Macleod and Fort Calgary, N.W.T. The trail was used extensively by bull trains in the 1870’s and 1880’s to carry supplies north before the arrival of the railroad. The trail was also used by stagecoaches carrying passengers and the Royal Mail, and for trail drives from Montana that brought cattle and horses to the Territory.
